So, it really comes down to perspective. I believe it is important and helpful to see the larger scale of our relatedness. We are all newcomers from somewhere else at some time, and we are all kin from the same Human Family. This kinship should also include a celebration and acceptance of diversity.

Change happens every day- In my opinion changing the name of this town to reflect the beautiful magical place it is, would be a first step towards the long journey of healing and rectifying historical intergenerational trauma.

Visitors to the city currently named Fort Bragg, CA, often ask “Where is the fort?” Perhaps they are expecting the typical enclosure of vertical tree trunks often seen in old western movies, or other such walled defensive fortifications.

How One Person CAN Make A Difference
We often say one person make a difference but we don’t always believe i. Now I have proof. In June 2023 I sat down at Zappas for coffee with Grace Eberhardt. Her family lives in Fort Bragg and even as a lowly undergraduate (if I may indulge my professorial snootiness) she influenced her university to change the name of its regionally renowned natural history museum
Last Two Schools in CA Named for a Confederate.. FB High & Middle Schools
Data from the Southern Poverty Law Center has noted that there are only two schools named after Confederates in the entire state of California: Fort Bragg High School and Fort Bragg Middle School, named after Braxton Bragg.
